International Beer Day – Speedyreg

Craft beer, light beer, IPA, real ale or stout, today they are all welcomed under the banner of ‘beer’ to be enjoyed, appreciated and shared. Whatever your preference, today is the day to order yourself a pint as it’s International Beer Day! Plan a trip to support your local pub, try something new from a local brewery, or even an exotic brew from overseas. You might just find yourself a new favourite. Or perhaps you’d like to celebrate at home? No problem, you’ll find so many fabulous beers in the shops these days. You could pick out a beer you’ve never tried before. How about Tiny Rebel’s ‘Stay Puft’, a marshmallow flavour porter – it’s delicious trust me! Or just go for a beer with the silliest name such as the tennis themed ‘New Balls Please’ from the Cottage Brewing Co. or ‘Naughty Noelle’ from the York Brewery.

Of course beer and fun go hand in hand, so you’ll want some fascinating facts to entertain your drinking buddies with and we’re happy to oblige with some fun facts for you to share…

Beer – the facts you never knew you needed to know

  • The fear of an empty beer glass is known as Cenosillicaphobia. A highly worrying condition, especially on International Beer Day!
  • There’s a temple in Thailand made out of beer bottles. Over a million of them were used in the construction.
  • The Nigerians drink more Guinness than the Irish.
  • The world’s strongest beer has an alcohol content of 67.5% – that sounds rather scary!
  • Apparently the longest hangover ever lasted 4 weeks and was suffered by a man from Scotland who drank 60 pints of beer. How on earth was he still alive? We don’t recommend trying to beat this record!
  • Slugs love beer. If you want to get rid of them in your garden, leave out dishes of beer and they get drunk and drown in it. Perhaps not the worst way to go.

So you’ve got your fun facts at the ready, but there’s something else you need before you can have the perfect night out at the pub and that’s some terrible jokes. Here are some beer related jokes to add to your repertoire…

What did the man with slab of tarmac under his arm say to the barman?

A Roman walks into a bar
