Get Set for the Australian Grand Prix and the start of the 2020 Formula 1 Season

Speedyreg – Australian Grand Prix

We’ve been eagerly awaiting the roar of the engines, the excitement of F1 and all the thrills and spills the races always bring. So we’re all set for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. Despite the postponement of the Chinese Grand Prix due to Coronavirus, and the plan to hold the Bahrain GP without spectators, the Australian round is set to go ahead as planned. The Australia race weekend is one of the best attended of the F1 races with around 100,000 spectators.

This season is going to see the world watching Lewis Hamilton to see if he can secure a seventh world championship win and match the record set by the great Michael Schumacher.

The Melbourne Circuit

The Albert Park circuit at Melbourne has been used for the Grand Prix since 1996. This street circuit is set around the lake in the centre of Albert Park. It’s a 58 lap circuit with a circuit length of 5.303km giving a total race distance of 307.574km. The lap record here was set back in 2004 by Michael Schumacher and stands at 1:24.125. This is one of the fastest tracks in the F1 race calendar but overtaking here can be tricky.  The circuit takes around 290,000 man hours to assemble each year.
