Raise Your Glasses – English Wine Week Begins

What country does your favourite bottle of wine come from? France? Spain? New Zealand? Did you know that there are 577 vineyards in the UK? Just because we don’t have the hot climate doesn’t stop us Brits from making wine! If you haven’t tried English wine yet, then now is the time. English wine week runs from May 26th to June 3rd and it’s all about raising awareness of English wine, so why not give it a try yourself? You might be pleasantly surprised just how delicious it is and find yourself a new favourite. Plus it’s good if you’re concerned about food (or drink!) miles! If Britain gets stung with big import duties after Brexit, local produce could be a more financially beneficial option too!

Enjoy a glass in the sunshine

It’s the perfect timing for wine week, the weather is forecast to be pretty decent, so you can sit out in the garden with a nice glass of wine, or take a bottle out and have a picnic at a local beauty spot.

Wine varieties in the UK

Love your Chardonnay or Pinot Noir? Then you’re in luck. These are two most popular grape varieties grown in the UK!

Choose a bottle

Over English Wine Week you should be able to find more English wines available in the stores. They’re also likely to have some special offers on, so it’s a good way to try English wine at a bargain price.

Enjoy English wines with a beautiful meal

Over the course of the week, there are several restaurants across the UK offering a multi-course menu, with each course being perfectly matched with an English wine. This would be a fantastic way to try several English wines.

Visit a vineyard

Always wondered how wine is made? Many vineyards across the UK offer tours. It’s a great way to spend the day, you’ll certainly learn something, and you might just get to try some samples too! Summer is a great time for getting out and about in the car, especially if you’ve recently bought a new private plate, but of course please never drink and drive. But you can enjoy a vineyard tour without drinking the wines, just buy a bottle to bring home with you!

Have a great Wine Week!

So do give English wines a try, drink responsibly and have a lovely Wine Week – Cheers everyone!
