Bonfire Night 2019– Speedyreg

It’s bonfire night, so will you be going out to watch a fireworks display, or perhaps staying at home to catch a glimpse of the rockets from the warmth of your own home, maybe stepping out into the garden to light a sparkler? Either way we hope you have a brilliant time!

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,

The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,

I know of no reason

Why Gunpowder Treason

Should ever be forgot.

Be sure to keep an eye on your pets though, they can get very upset with all the loud noises, so if you’re going out to watch the fireworks yourself, perhaps leave the TV on to drown out the bangs a little, and make sure your pets are safe inside and they feel secure. Keep the windows and the curtains shut and ensure they have somewhere they can hide such as under the bed or behind the sofa. Rabbits and guinea pigs are also easily stressed so do bring them inside too!

Did you know…

  • The first ever fireworks display was held by King Henry VII to celebrate his wedding in 1486.
  • Until 1959 it was actually illegal not to celebrate Bonfire Night in Britain.
  • If you visit the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford you can see a lantern that is believed to be the one that Guy Fawkes was carrying when he was caught in the cellars of Parliament.
  • To this day, the cellars of the Houses of Parliament are still searched by the Yeomen of the Guard.
  • A sparkler burns at up to 1500°C!

I can’t believe people are letting fireworks off in October!

It’s scared the dog so badly he’s knocked the Christmas tree over.
