We’re big fans of the British Historic Rally Championship here at Speedy Reg, so much so that we sponsor driver Simon Webster and we keenly follow his progress during the championships. So we’re incredibly pleased to let you know that he and his co-driver Jez Rogers have just scored their first championship win – well done guys!

This great achievement came in round four, the Red Kite Stages on Sunday. A beautiful but tricky course set in the forest of South Wales and named after the majestic birds of prey that have made these forests their home. It was certainly a challenging race, with high dust levels in the morning reducing visibility, followed by rain in the afternoon which made the stages very slippery. Simon got off to a great start, quickly establishing an 8 second lead. But Steve Bennett and Osian Owen were close behind and soon closed the gap to just 5 seconds. Then things started to get really tense during the Margam stage, with Bennett forging on fast, eventually managing to turn that 5 second deficit into a 1 second lead. But Webster had just had two fresh tyres fitted before the final stage, and managed to regain the lead with a speed 3 seconds faster and some incredibly skilled driving, finally winning the race by just 2 seconds. It was certainly very exciting and nerve-wracking racing from the start and an amazing end result for our favourite team. It truly was a classic BHRC race that no spectator will forget in a hurry, this is what motor racing is all about!

We’re so proud of Simon and Jez, and we’re sure this win will be a great confidence boost for the them both. We can’t wait to see what will happen in the next round, the Harry Flatter Rally on July 28th. Can Simon keep up this winning streak on an asphalt course? We think he can do it and of course we wish them all the very best of luck. Keep up the good work!
