Remembrance Day – Time to Say Thank You

100 years ago today, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, World War I was finally over. So every year on November 11th, we remember all those who have fought in wars, families that have lost loved ones, and everyone else who has ever made a contribution to the war effort. A war is more than soldiers and so we pay tribute and say Thank You to those who helped bring about an end to war.

The impact of the Great War lives on

100 years ago seems like a long time to most of us, especially to the young, but the effects of the war will never leave us and have a ripple effect through time, affecting many generations.

During WWI, more than 340,000 children lost a parent. Many more lost brothers and sisters. So of course with the next generation, that’s a huge amount of children who will never know a grandparent, an aunt or an uncle, forever a lost ancestor for the future generations.

Our world has changed as a result of the war, the role of women in society changed dramatically virtually overnight, when the men went to war, women had to step in and take on jobs that would have been classed as male roles previously. Technological innovation moved fast, it was the development work during the war that brought us wristwatches and teabags!

Thank You
