Moby Releases New Album – Everything Was Beautiful, And Nothing Hurt

We are loving the first single from Moby’s latest album! The single is called Like a Motherless Child and the album, available via Mute on March 2nd is entitled Everything Was Beautiful, And Nothing Hurt. Apparently the title is from the sci-fi book Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. That’s one to add to the reading list I think!

It’s less than a year since the last Moby album, Long Ambients 1: Calm, Sleep came out. Like the ambassador at a reception, he has truly spoilt us lately! He also released a collaborative album More Fast Songs About the Apocalypse with the Void Pacific Choir. If you haven’t heard it, it’s definitely worth a listen.

With a strong trip-hop vibe and gospel undertones, this new album is set to be pretty special. It’s Moby doing what Moby does best.

Everything Was Beautiful, and Nothing Hurt track listing:

  1. Mere Anarchy
  2. The Waste of Suns
  3. Like a Motherless Child
  4. The Last of Goodbyes
  5. The Ceremony of Innocence
  6. The Tired and The Hurt
  7. Welcome to Hard Times
  8. The Sorrow Tree
  9. Falling Rain and Light
  10. The Middle is Gone
  11. This Wild Darkness
  12. A Dark Cloud is Coming

The second single to be released is the first track from the album and is called Mere Anarchy. Check out the video on YouTube, it’s a treat! It features Moby and his friend Julie visiting a post-apocalyptic earth with no inhabitants. Creepy! The name of this track is another literary reference, it’s from a poem by WB Yeats called The Second Coming.

Why is Moby called Moby?

Ever wondered why Moby is called Moby? Well, you’re about to find out! His real name is Richard Melville Hall. Melville is rather an odd name, but it wasn’t picked at random to be a bit alternative. He is named after his great great great grand uncle Herman Melville. But why Moby? I can hear you asking, well Herman Melville was the author of the famous novel Moby Dick! So there you go, it all makes sense now!
