Got Any Plans for the Summer Solstice?

June 21^st is the summer solstice. It’s the longest day of the year. After June 21^st, the nights will start to draw in again. Ever wondered why it’s called the solstice? It’s from two Latin words. ‘Sol’ meaning ‘sun’ and ‘sistere’ meaning ‘to make stand’. This is because on this day, the sun does appear to be stationary in the sky.

If you’re a fan of the summer solstice, you may want to consider a move to Uranus where the summer solstice lasts for 42 years!

While many of us don’t tend to celebrate the solstice, there’s plenty going on if you know where to look and where to go!

You’ll be in for a magical treat if you watch the sun set and rise over the stones of Avebury or Stonehenge, or from the top of Glastonbury Tor. You won’t be alone, hundreds of people flock to these locations every year. It’s certainly a wonderful, peaceful experience.
