According to a recent survey 23% of us turn to our dads for car advice. It seems we trust our dads more than garages, so we’ve asked some dads for their top motoring tips!

“Get the right oil for your engine and you’ll get more years out of it. Most shops will have a list where you can look up the type of oil you need for your car. Different types of car and different age of vehicle makes a difference.”

“Get in a routine with regular checks before you go on any long journey. Check water and oil levels and make sure you’ve got the number of your breakdown service with you.”

“Never buy a white car, it’ll always look dirty!”

“You’ll save loads of money if you buy a car that is a year old rather than a brand new one.”

“Always keep your tank full in winter. Apparently water can condense on the inside of a tank that isn’t full and can cause problems with the fuel line.”

“Not all screen wash is the same, some will freeze up when the temperatures plummet. Read the labels and you’ll see the temperature they’re effective down to. In winter it’s a good idea to spend a bit more and get the good stuff”
