Elizabeth Taylor

Today 27th February would have been silver screen icon Elizabeth Taylor’s 81st birthday, had she survived her long battle with heart complications. The iconic actress starred in more than 50 films (including voice overs in the Simpsons) and many TV shows throughout her career which spanned from 1942 to 2003. She is one of the world’s best loved actresses and was married no less than eight times (famously marrying Richard Burton twice), as it has been said that she nearly always ended up falling in love with the leading actor in many of the films she starred in.

She is not only famous for films such as ‘Lassie Come Home’, ‘National Velvet’, ‘Cat On A Hot Tin Roof’ and ”Cleopatra’ but is also famous for her vast jewellery collection. At the time of her death it is reported that her collection was worth around $150 million. Among her most famous pieces was the 50 carat ‘La Peregrina Pearl’, once owned by Queen Mary I and is one of the most famous pearls in the world due to it’s size and perfectly symmetrical pear shape. She often wore some of her most expensive pieces on a daily basis, which proves that she liked to be noticed. The team at Speedy Reg are not sure whether she ever owned a personalised number plate but had she been alive today she could have owned ELZ 42, which would have marked the year she began her acting career or ELZ 72 would be a good number as the 72 resembles a TR.
