Derry Lotto winner loses his Ferrari

Derry Lotto winner on a losing streak using a mobile in his Ferrari

A man who won over £6m in the EuroMillions lottery three years ago was fined for using his mobile while driving the high-performance sports car he bought with his winnings.

Ryan Magee was fined £200 at Londonderry Magistrates Court yesterday after he admitted using his mobile phone while driving his Ferrari.

Mr Magee, from Monnabuoy Road in Eglinton, Co Derry, was seen using his mobile phone by police officers while driving the £157,000 sports car along Crescent Link in the Waterside area of the city last July 4.

The 200mph Ferrari F430 Spider was one of the jackpot winner’s first purchases after his cash windfall. Mr Magee was also penalised three penalty points and was fined another £50 for the non-production of his driving licence.

No one matched all seven numbers of the draw but Mr Magee had managed to predict the five main balls and one of the lucky stars and scooped a whopping £6,462,181.30, making him one of the biggest Northern Ireland winners to go public.

At the time of his win Mr Magee said he “had a feeling” he was going to win and had bought 11 tickets from four different parts of the northwest, including Derry, Strabane, Omagh and Coleraine.

Afterwards he admitted that despite feeling he was going to win it, he was still a shock when he realised his dream had come true.

Defence solicitor Maeliosa Barr described his client’s actions with the mobile phone as foolish.
