UFC 237 – Fight for the World Strawweight Championship

Legends of UFC head to the Jeunesse Arena Rio de Janeiro on Saturday May 11^th for UFC 237. The main event sees current world strawweight champion Rose Namajunas up against Brazilian Jessica Andrade. The event was originally going to be held at Arena de Baixada in Curitiba but the UFC failed to agree terms with home team Athletico Pranaense so the venue was moved the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janiero. This is the first time ever that a strawweight bout has headlined a pay-per-view UFC event. In addition to this championship battle, you’ll also get to see some other key fights including a featherweight fight between former champion Jose Aldo and Alexander Volkanovski, and a middleweight battle that will see Anderson Silva go up against Jared Cannonier.

UFC 237 also sees a long awaited rescheduled bout between former bantamweight title challenger Bethe Correia and Irene Aldana. This fight was due to go ahead back in August 2018 but was postponed due to an injury to Bethe Correia. BJ Penn is still scheduled to fight, despite recent allegations of assaulting his ex-wife and threatening a farmer with a machete, which is currently under investigation. Penn denies the allegations.

A recent change to the card sees Talita Bernardo up against Melissa Gatto, instead of Jessica-Rose Clark who has recently sustained an injury, snapping the ligaments in her foot, which has prevented her taking part in UFC 237.
