The Winter Paralympics in South Korea Begin!

The Winter Olympics are very exciting, and the great thing is, when they’re over, it’s not over as you’ve then got the whole of the Winter Paralympics to watch too! The 2018 Paralympics are being held in Pyeongchang, North Korea, from 9th March until the 18th March. North Korea have bid for the honour of hosting the Winter Olympics and Paralympics three times in a row and this time they were successful.

Tune in to the BBC to keep up with all the action

You can watch coverage of the events on the BBC Sport website and on their app, and there will also be audio coverage on BBC Radio 5 live.

The games will see 670 athletes competing for 80 medals in six different winter sports. This is 24% more than competed in the last Paralympics at Sochi in 2014.

The sports at the 2018 Paralympic Games

The six sports this year are…

  • Alpine skiing
  • Biathlon
  • Ice sledge hockey
  • Snowboarding
  • cross country skiing
  • wheelchair curling

There’s been a change for 2018, snowboarding is now a separate discipline and there will be 10 medal events for it. Previously snowboarding was included as part of the alpine skiing programme.

Will Great Britain beat their Sochi record?

Great Britain did very well in the Paralympics at Sochi in 2014, bringing home 6 medals. In fact, it was the greatest achievement of the British team in modern times. Last year, skier Jade Etherington brought home three silver medals and one bronze medal, making her Great Britain’s highest achieving Paralympic athlete of all time! Kelly Gallagher also won the first ever Winter Paralympic gold medal for Britain in the skiing.

That’s a lot to live up to, can Britain beat that this year? We certainly think they can do it. We’ll be cheering them on and we wish them a lot of luck in Pyeongchang!

Looking for a winter sports private plate?

If you’d like a winter sports plate for your vehicle, then how about the rather chilly 1 CEN? Or perhaps SK11 SSY? We’ve also got some snowy plates such as 15 SNO and 105 SNO, and if you’re looking for a great deal, we’ve also got a wide selection of very cheap SNO plates such as S800 SNO, S444 SNO and S123 SNO, all for £199!

Or if you’re sick of the cold weather…

As much as we love the Winter Games, we are getting slightly fed up of this cold weather and we’re certainly looking forward to things warming up a little! If you feel the same, then a cold plate might not be what you’re looking for, but don’t worry, you can always pick up SUN 111 instead! That’s sure to brighten up your day!
