Since the birth of Prince George son of Prince William and Catherine Middleton back in July the media have been waiting with baited breath for the chance to get the first official glimpse of him. The Cambridges have been keeping their little bundle of joy under wraps in the hope of giving him the most normal upbringing they can.

This hope of the most normal upbringing possible also reflected on their choice of godparents. Although there are seven of them, William and Kate decided to choose from amongst their closest friends as well as from royalty.

The godparents, announced earlier today via email, are Oliver Baker, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Earl Grosvenor, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Julia Samuel, William van Cutsem and Zara Tindall. The ceremony was held in the Chapel Royal at Saint James’ Palace.

After the ceremony, celebrity photographer Jason Bell was expected to take a picture of the Queen and princes Charles, William and George together.

This will echo a 1894 picture from the christening of the future Edward VIII, showing him with his father, grandfather and great-grandmother – George V, Edward VII and Queen Victoria.
