Ray Reardon’s number plate sold on eBay

Number Plates

Snooker legend Ray Reardon owned the highly desirable 1 PRO number plate for over 30 years and it recently came up for auction on eBay fetching bids of over £60,000. It’s not hard to see why it has had so much interest, it’s a great plate for any professional and being a short plate, it has that extra appeal. As well as being a fantastic plate in its own right, of course it has an interesting heritage too. Any snooker fan would be proud to display this plate on their own vehicle, as Ray Reardon was for more than 30 years, finally selling it in 2004.

Ray bought the plate in 1974, shortly after defeating Graham Miles in the world snooker final. In 1976 he became the first ever number one professional snooker player, so his plate was very apt. Perhaps it brought him good fortune? The seller of the plate earlier this year seems to think so as life has also been good to him since he bought the plate too.

This plate has actually been valued at £120,000 before the recession, so whoever bought it at auction could well find that it’s a good investment some time in the future when the economy improves.
