Obscene number plates removed

DVLA has ordered a Motorist to remove his “obscene” number plates‼

Alan Clarke, from Chesterfield, who bought registration number BO11 LUX for his new vehicle from the DVLA‘s website. But within six weeks, he received a letter from the DVLA stating that his plate was ‘causing offence’ and that he had to remove the registration.

Mr Clark is baffled and would like to know what offence he is committing, as the DVLA have yet to inform him. He has a receipt for the number, along with V5C document for his vehicle, both issued by the DVLA.

The DVLA have now issued his vehicle with a normal issue number, which he has returned back to them as he is not willing to accept it.

The DVLA issued the following statement:

‘DVLA tries to identify combinations that may cause offence, and on the rare occasion where potentially offensive numbers slip through the net, steps are taken to withdraw the registration number. ‘This particular registration plate has been withdrawn, therefore it is an offence for the driver to still be displaying it. He would receive a refund for the plate.’

We are interested in hearing your views on this case, do you think the DVLA was right to withdrawn this registration?
