The DVLA ( Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency ) is
located in Swansea, South Wales. Amongst other duties, they maintain a
list of all drivers and all registered vehicles and number plates within mainland Britain
(England, Scotland and Wales). Northern Ireland is handled seperately
by the DVLNI (Driver and Vehicle Licencing Northern Ireland). When transferring
a registration from one vehicle (or a certificate) to another vehicle,
there is a transfer fee to pay. This covers the administrative time for
the DVLA (or DVLNI) to handle the paperwork. We include this transfer
fee as part of your total purchase price so once purchased from us, you
don't need to pay anything more to get it onto your vehicle.
In order to transfer vehicle registrations, the paperwork
has to be either posted or taken to one of the local DVLA offices around
the UK. The list of the current offices is shown below, along with their
contact phone number. The DVLA office will process the paperwork for you
there and then if you take it in to them and often it is a next day turnaround
if you post it in to them.
