{"id":1679,"date":"2010-10-17T10:00:26","date_gmt":"2010-10-17T09:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.speedyreg.co.uk\/blogs\/?p=1679"},"modified":"2010-11-10T16:13:27","modified_gmt":"2010-11-10T16:13:27","slug":"the-law-on-number-plates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.speedyreg.co.uk\/blogs\/2010\/10\/the-law-on-number-plates\/","title":{"rendered":"The Law on Number Plates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>DVLA guidelines on how Number Plates\u00a0should be displayed<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.createyourplate.co.uk\">DVLA<\/a> states that all registration marks including marks purchased through DVLA&#8217;s sales scheme must be displayed in accordance with The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 (obtainable from Her Majesty&#8217;s Stationery Office).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The Rules of Displaying <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_the_United_Kingdom\">Number Plates<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A number plate must be displayed at the front and rear of motor vehicles (with some exceptions). <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Number Plates must be easy to read and meet the British Standard. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Lettering should be black on a white plate at the front and a yellow at the rear. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The background surface should be reflex-reflecting but the characters must not. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>There are separate requirements for traditional number plates displayed on vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973, these are Black Number Plates with Silver Lettering<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Lettering and spacing must be of a set size. They must conform to one of the groups shown at:- Number plates fitted after 1 September 2001 or Number plates fitted before 1 September 2001<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Number Plate Law<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The law states that,<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>You must not alter, rearrange or misrepresent the letters or numbers <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Characters must not be moved from one group to the other (e.g. A242 ABC must not be displayed as A242A BC). <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Number plates must be clean and visible and\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">NOT<\/span><\/span> like this number plate,<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.speedyreg.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Clean-Number-Plates.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1680\" title=\"NOT Clean Number Plates\" src=\"https:\/\/www.speedyreg.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Clean-Number-Plates-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"NOT Clean Number Plates\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Offences may result in any or all of the following:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A fine of up to \u00a31,000 <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The registration mark may be WITHDRAWN <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The vehicle may FAIL the MOT test<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DVLA guidelines on how Number Plates\u00a0should be displayed The DVLA states that all registration marks including marks purchased through DVLA&#8217;s sales scheme must be displayed in accordance with The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 (obtainable from Her Majesty&#8217;s Stationery Office).
