The changes will be implemented on December 18<sup>th<\/sup>\nthis year and the new rules state that out of date certificates will no longer\nbe renewed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The current system for out of date certificates<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, if a certificate is out of date, and it expired on or after 1 May 2011 \u00a0it is possible to renew the certificate by paying \u00a325 for every year to get it up to date but this will no longer be the case from 18<sup>th<\/sup> December 2019. So, if you have an out of date retention document or certificate of entitlement, it\u2019s very important to act now or you risk losing your rights to your plates entirely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What you need to do <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If these changes affect you and your documents are out of\ndate, you need to act now and get up to date before the cut off date of\nDecember 18th. The fee for each year, or part year since expiration is \u00a325.\nYou\u2019ll need to fill out the form on your documentation and send it to the DVLA\nalong with the fee owed. If you don\u2019t have your documentation, you need to\nwrite to the DVLA giving a reason for not having the document, along with the\nfee, details of your number plate and proof of your name and address.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Renew it or risk losing it <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Failure to comply with these new regulations has some\nserious consequences, you are effectively giving up your rights to your plate,\nso it is imperative that you check any plates you have on retention and ensure\nthey are up to date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t worry \u2013 we\u2019re here to help<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This may be concerning to some of you, but there\u2019s no need\nto panic.
