With 57,000 runners taking part, the Great North Run is the biggest half-marathon in the UK. The race starts on the motorway at Newcastle and ends in South Shields. There\u2019s something pretty amazing about running along a motorway, it\u2019s not something you get to do every day! When the racers get to the tunnels, the atmosphere turns electric with singing and chanting, making the most of the echoing acoustics! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While it\u2019s a serious business for the elite runners, there\u2019s also a lot of fun to be had. Crowds line the streets for the entire route so there\u2019s plenty of encouragement and cheers for the runners to spur them on. There are even bands playing along the way, including an Elvis tribute act at mile eleven! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those taking part, the view of the sea at South Shields is a sign that you\u2019re nearly there, just one mile away from the finish line. The final push can be the hardest part, but the crowds here are amazing and you\u2019ll certainly be spurred on in your final race moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
