On the 15th<\/sup> and 16th<\/sup> of June, head to\nhistoric Pendine Sands beach in Carmarthshire, South Wales for the fastest and\nmost exciting beach racing competition in the world. 2019 will be the seventh\nyear of these awesome races and it\u2019s certainly a thrilling weekend. Competitors\ncome from all over the world to take part. It\u2019s a vintage race, so only\npre-1949 vehicles are allowed to enter, and you\u2019ll certainly see some beautiful\nhot rods and custom cars. There are Fords aplenty, Chevrolets, Willys,\nPlymouths and more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

VHRA (Vintage Hot Rod Association) members can access the\npit, but anyone can go along and watch and it\u2019s free of charge too! You can\nalso park right on the beach for a fee of \u00a34 per day. The race times depend on\nthe tides, but will start around 10am and go on for about five or six hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who will be King of the Beach?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drivers compete for the coveted King of the Beach title. The\ncurrent holder is Matt Farrant who has won the title three out of the last four\nyears. He\u2019ll be back this year to attempt to maintain the title for another\nyear but he\u2019s certainly got some tough competition so it will be exciting\nwatching that\u2019s for sure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A prestigious location<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pendine Sands has a long history of speed, having been used\nfor car and bike racing since the early 1900s. The beach offers the perfect\nstraight, flat and smooth surface to race on. Of course this is also the\nlocation for the famous battle for the land speed record between J.G.\nParry-Thomas and Malcolm Campbell back in the 1920s. Parry-Thomas\u2019s car is\nactually buried in the sand dunes here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A great atmosphere <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For anyone with an interest in historic vehicles and motor\nracing, spending time in the village of Pendine over the hot rod weekend is a\nwonderful opportunity to meet like minded people and even chat with some of the\ndrivers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
