On May 2nd<\/sup> 1972, baby Dwayne was born to parents\nAta and Rocky Johnson. Both his father and his grandfather had been\nprofessional wrestlers, so it was likely no surprise when Dwayne became the\nthird generation of Johnsons to take to the ring. He joined the World Wrestling\nFederation (WWF now WWE) in 1996 with the name Rocky Maivia, which was an\namalgamation of both his father\u2019s and grandfather\u2019s wrestling nicknames. He was\nnever keen on the name, but the heads of the organisation wanted to make the\nmost of his unique status as a third generation wrestler. Eventually he would\ndisassociate himself from this nickname, referring to himself as simply \u201cThe\nRock\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the next few years his fame and popularity grew and The\nRock became a household name. His acting career also began in 1996 when he\nworked on a weekly WWF show. He then took a role playing his own father in an\nepisode of That 70s Show<\/em> and he even starred in Star Trek: Voyager<\/em>\nas an alien wrestler in a fight with Seven of Nine. However his first major\nrole was in The Mummy Returns<\/em> and after the success of that film his\nacting career really took off and pretty much overtook his wrestling fame. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
