It has been accused that Brighton and Hove Ciry Council are ‘Selling the family silver’ as the intend auctioning the Mayor;s Personal Number Plates. The Council hope to raise £150,000 by auctioning off the number plate, the money raised would be used to fund the local community.

However many former mayors have said that it would be a tragedy to loose the CD 1 number plates at it is part of the city’s heritage. The Personal Number Plates were donated to the city more than 30 years ago as it refers to the local registration letters within the area.

The Labour councillor Brian Fitch, who was also the mayor in 1989, commented:

  “The CD1 plate is part of our history. It’s like selling off the family silver.”

The debate on whether to sell the personal number plates CD1 is over a decade old! In 2001 Green MEP, then a councillor, Keith Taylor suggested getting rid of the plate to raise extra revenue. At that point it was thought to be worth £50,000.

Dubai’s Licensing Agency of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) held its 9^th online number plate auction. Fifty 3 digit number plates along with 4 digit and 5 digit number plates were on sale, which resulted in heated competition among bidders.

Abdullah Abdul Rahman, Director of Vehicles Licensing, commented that over 100 number plates were offered for auction, it was also the first Auction to include 3 digit number plates. They opted to offer the 3 digit in an online auction as they were previousily unclaimed at open auctions. He also added that the 3 digit number plate category will be included in up coming online auctions.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge is being treated in an intensive care unit after giving birth to a baby girl named Hollie Rose Hughes.

Her spokeswoman Alison Griffin revealed Amanda’s second daughter had been delivered on Monday. She said: ‘Hollie Rose Hughes was born on 23 January 2012. She is healthy and weighed in at 6.1lb but Amanda has been in a critical condition for the past three days’.

After cancelling her appearance at the Blackpool audition stage of the ITV talent show, which kicked off last week, fellow judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams will now continue with the auditions.

The 7^th series of Dancing on Ice, is currently in its 4^th week, where Phillip Schofield returned as host, with new co-presenter Christine Bleakley.
