ACANNY businessman is out to treble his money — after snapping up Cristiano Ronaldo’s ideal car number plate.
Man United’s Portuguese ace actually made a bid for the registration CR7, which combines his initials and shirt number.
But the deal collapsed — so property developer Russell Baldwin, 49, stepped in to buy it for £50,000.
Ronaldo, 23, had planned to fit the plate to his £140,000 silver Bentley convertible — but Russell has now put it on a 1996 Ford Escort worth £300.
The dad of three reckons wealthy Man United fans would pay £150,000 for the plate — but he’d rather sell it to the player.
He said: “I put the plate on the Escort for a laugh, then sent a pic to Ronaldo. I hope he gets in touch, I’d love to sell it to him. My boys are Man United mad — they’d be made-up if he came on the phone.”
Russell, of Beaconsfield, Bucks, had gone to buy other plates when the dealer revealed he still had CR7 after a deal with Ronaldo broke down.
Russell added: “It could be an excellent bit of business — the plate dates back to 1903.”
Ronaldo — who wrecked his Ferrari earlier this month — has already registered CR7 as a trademark for merchandising and a boutique in Lisbon.
