£50 reward in hunt for number plate thieves
A REWARD is being offered to catch offenders who are stealing number plates from cars in Stamford.
Police are stumping up a £50 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of thieves responsible for a spate of number plate thefts across the town.
The latest incidents took place between 10.30pm on Wednesday and 1.30pm on Thursday in Ryhall Road, Stamford, when offenders stole the front and back plates from a red Volkswagen van, registration S179 BVV.
Thieves also stole the back number plate from a Ford Fiesta, registration AF05 KLU, while it was parked in Worcester Crescent, Stamford, between November 13 and 14.
Stamford Sector Inspector Gary Stewart said: "These two incidents make it six thefts of registration plates in the last week in the area.
"Although some may view this as a very low-level crime it is extremely frustrating for the owners of the cars and they do have to pay for them to be replaced.
"We want to nip this in the bud as soon as possible.
"We want people to report any suspicious activity around vehicles in the town and we are offering a £50 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction."
